KAVAN M+ - User manual

Introduction

Congratulations on purchasing the KAVAN M+, a tiny telemetry receiver for the 2.4GHz ACCESS transmission system. It features a 16 or 24-channel mode via S.BUS. Detachable antenna with IPEX4 connector. With a Micro JST connector, it is especially ideal for the KAVAN Sling MINI DLG, but can also be used for a wide range of copters. Thanks to F.BUS connectivity, you can easily and quickly pair it with various telemetry devices. Telemetry transmission works over a distance of 500–600 metres. OTA (Over-the-Air) technology ensures convenient wireless firmware updates.

If you have any questions about the R6 receiver and its operation, please contact the technical and service staff at KAVAN Europe s.r.o. by e-mail info@kavanrc.com for general technical information, service@kavanrc.com for service) or by phone (+420 466 260 133 for general technical information, +420 463 358 700 for service), during working hours 8:00–16:00 CET, Monday to Friday).

Registration and pairing

Before you can start using your receiver, you must first register it.

Procedure:

  1. Put the transmitter into the [Reg] status.
    • Turn on the transmitter, navigate to Page 1 of the Model setup menu, choose Internal or External RF and select [Reg].
  2. Put the receiver into the [Reg] status.
    • Connect the battery to the receiver while holding the pairing button on the receiver. The red and green LEDs on the receiver are on, indicating the [Reg] status.
  3. Receiver will appear in the Register menu. Select "Register" by pressing [Enter]
  4. Turn off the receiver.
  5. Use the cursor to select the RX1 [Bind].
  6. Connect the battery to the receiver. The green LED flashes, indicating the [Bind] status. Select the RX, the green LED stays on, and the transmitter displays [Bind successful].
  7. Confirm the pairing by pressing [Ok]. The green LED is on and the red LED is off, indicating normal operation.
Note

Once the receiver is registered, the button is not needed anymore in the binding process.

How to switch the F.Port

Select the Receiver, press the ENTER button, select the Options, and choose the F.Port.

OTA ("Over The Air") firmware update

Navigate to SD CARD 2/7 and select the FW. Press the enter button, select [Flash receiver OTA], and power on the receiver. Select the RX, confirm with [ENTER] and complete the flash process. The transmitter will display [Flash successful]. Turn the receiver off and on again and wait for 3 seconds. The Green LED will start flashing, indicating the receiver works properly.

Note

Please do not start another pairing in close proximity while the firmware update is in progress.

Note

Update the firmware after pairing the receiver.

Range Check

A range check should be done before each flying session. Reflections from nearby metal fences, concrete buildings or trees can cause loss of signal both during range check and the flight. In Range check mode, the RF power and range are decreased to 1/30–1/10 of the normal mode.

  1. Place the model at least 60 cm (two feet) above a non-metal contaminated surface (e.g. a wooden bench). The receiver antenna should be in a vertical position.
  2. For Taranis X-Lite Pro as an example, turn on the transmitter and power on the receiver, go to: SETUP 2/13 /Internal RF/ Module [Rng].
  3. For the transmitter RF module, please refer to the respective manual.

For more operation descriptions and instructions, please refer to the respective manual.

Fail-safe emergency rates

When Fail-safe is turned on, 3 modes are available: No signal, Hold, Custom.

No signal

When signal is lost, the receiver does not send a control signal to the rates on any channel. To use this type, select it from the menu and wait 9 seconds for the Fail-safe setting change to take effect.

Hold

The receiver maintains the rates as they were before the signal was lost. To use this type, select it from the menu and wait 9 seconds for the Fail-safe setting change to take effect.

Custom

The receiver keeps the rate value on all channels as you preselect it. Select the Fail-safe setting menu. Switch from Disconnect/Hold/Not Set to Custom. Select the channel for which you want to set fail-safe rates and confirm the selection. Then set the rates on each desired channel and confirm the selection. Wait 9 seconds for the Fail-safe setting change to take effect.

Note

If the fail-safe is not set, the model will always operate with the last functional state of the channels before the signal loss. This could potentially cause damage. If the fail-safe is disabled on the RF module side, the receiver will go to the default Hold mode. Do not set the Fail-safe mode for the S.BUS port to No Signal mode, as the signal would be continuously transmitted. Set the S.BUS port to Hold or Custom mode instead.
